Transformer Oil Filtration

Transformer Oil Filtration

As the transformer ages, the oil inside degrades over time. Transformers require filtered and dried oil. The oil is exposed to unwanted elements like acids, moisture, metal dust, and sometimes dissolved gases too which makes it vital to consider filtration of transformer oil in order to maintain good quality and clean oil for the transformer to give efficient and reliable performance. Hence, transformer oil filtration is an important process that knocks out solid particles, dissolved gasses, and dissolved water. The electrical properties of the oil can be improved by filtering, dehydration, and degassing.

Transformer Oil Filtration

Transformer oil and its functions

Transformer/insulating oil is usually stable at high temperatures. Other than that, the following are functions of insulating oil:

  • As cooler When the voltage goes up/down, the temperature of the transformer’s windings increases, oil is used to cool down the condition.
  • As an insulator, It acts as an insulator between the windings. It increases the resistance between them and avoids short circuits.
  • For security, It operates the level of oil inside the transformer. In this way, you will prevent the transformer from severe losses and damages.

    Why Transformer Oil Filtration?

Transformer oil filtration is carried out with an Ultra High Vacuum oil filter machine of adequate capacity. Our mobile oil filtration plant is designed to remove dissolved moisture, dirt, air, and other gases from the transformer oil. This two-stage Mobile filtration plant operates on the principle of Low Temperature and High Vacuum. Unfiltered oil is taken into the system through the inlet valve. Then the oil is pumped into the system through a positive displacement pump. Preliminary Coarse filters protect the pump by entering solid and magnetic particles up to 1 mm in size. The oil is heated up to 60-65°C. After heating the oil passes through the cartridge filters where the particles up to 2 microns are filtered. Then the oil is passed through a specially designed vacuum chamber, where the moisture, air, and other gases are extracted from the oil. The vacuum chamber is designed in such a way that the oil is spread out and is allowed to fall by gravity over the media inside, forming a thin film of oil providing a large surface area exposed to vacuum. With this exposure, the dissolved moisture and gases are evacuated to improve the insulating properties of transformer oil.

    The Entire Process

    Rising oil temperature

    Removal of dirt and impurities

Dehydration and degasification of insulating oil

    The insulating oil filtration process

    1. Rising oil temperature

The first phase is to raise the oil temperature up to 65°C to give latent heat which separates moisture and gases. Heating the oil will make it easier to filter because of the decrease in oil viscosity.

    2. Removal of dirt and impurities

The second phase is to remove sludge and dirt from the insulating oil. There are 2 ways to eliminate dirt in the transformer oil.

    • By filter candles

Insulating oil filtration by filter candles can be categorized by using a classical edge filter or depth type filter. However, new advancements were made in which transformer oil filtration machines use filter cartridges instead of edge-type paper filters.

    • By centrifuging action

Another method for separating dirt from oil is through centrifuging. This process can save the recurring cost of changing filters.

    3. Dehydration and degasification of insulating oil

The final stage includes dehumidification of insulating oil and removal of gasses. This process is concluded in the degassing chamber.

    Hydraulic Oil

    Hydraulic oil filtration

Hydraulic oil is easily contaminated from water vapors to dust particles and everything in between. Keep your projects thriving and your budget on point with our portable hydraulic filtration system and strategy.

Our machines are collectively made up of international imported parts to carry on each and every process with a sleek and swift finish. With large capacities of Hydraulic oil filtration machines having capacities of 3,000 LPH to 12,000 LPH.   Our machines are specially crafted to achieve the highest level of oil purification. We are not bound to limited process cycles, we continue the purification until our customers are satisfied by the driven results.

Dry air generator and oil tanker facility

When the transformer erection process is going on, a dry air generator is considered to be the most important part. Along with the oil purification plant, we have the facility of a dry air generator. The dry air generator prevents the transformer from winding away from the moisture at the time of erecting the transformer on-site.

So, our dry air generator is carefully made and equipped with international specifications and materials, providing a seamless performance quality. For transformer basic repairs and gasket changing oil storage tank is one of the essential things needed to reduce the risk of oil wastage and so we have that facility for effortless work progress at a client site. Our oil storage tanks are specially designed with heavy gauge metals and a chemically treated inner layer. We never compromise on quality dimensions in our service.
